Subtle Glow

I am so happy - I received a belated birthday present from a friend the other day.  I opened the envelope to find a gift certificate to the local yarn store.  WOOT!

At the last gathering with my girlfriends, I put on my newest hat I knitted. It’s a very soft yarn with little pearl beads threaded strategically throughout.  A couple of the girls complimented my fine hat, and then I told them that I made it my very own self - and the crowd went wild!

This led to a whole discussion of several girls saying they have bought some supplies to knit, though they can’t quite figure out how.  Just a quick aside here:  That is SO like us to buy something we like but not have the first clue how to use it.  In the past, it has always been some supplies for a scrapbooking technique, or you know - a new drink recipe.

Hey - speaking of drink recipes!  Joelle (who was nice enough to turn over the subtleglow domain name I’m using - thanks again!) linked to this site and then linked to her drink recipe, which reminded me of MY drink recipe, so I submitted it as well.  Go forth and mix drinks!

Ok, where was I?  Knitting! Right.

After the whole hat/clueless to knitting conversation, we decided that the next time we get together we will all bring our knitting supplies and we will have our very own Stitch ‘n Bitch!! So that’s what I have planned this Friday.

I’m just going a little crazy trying to figure out what I’m going to buy with my gift certificate.  It’s for a little less than what it would cost to get the yarn for any one of a few sweaters I have been wanting to make.  I have yet to make a sweater but I’m almost ready to try.  If I had the yarn of course.

On the other hand I could make a bunch of hats and/or scarves if I used the gift certificate to just go nuts and get whatever yarn looks tempting while I’m there.  I just don’t like to buy the yarn without a specific project in mind - I haven’t figured out the math in order to correctly determine the guage or whatever so I don’t know how to substitute different yarns/needles for different things.  Decisions, decisions - but either way the shopping will be fun!
